Testosterone is a hormone that is usually discussed in reference to men. But just like men have some estrogen in their bodies, we women have testosterone in ours.
Even though our levels of testosterone are low in comparison to our estrogen levels, it is the balance of the two together that keeps us looking and feeling good. We need a certain amount of testosterone, which is produced in the ovaries. It helps improve clitoral and nipple sensitivity and increase libido. It can also increase muscle strength and bone density.
When you experience a loss of testosterone, you may feel fatigued, have memory lapses and notice weight gain, especially around the abdomen. It is also true that testosterone replacement in women decreases the risk of breast cancer. (Dimitrakakis, 2004)
Testosterone is needed by all women for hormonal balance. It makes us feel good. Here is what bioidentical testosterone can do for you:
* Protect the heart by decreasing inflammation
* Protect bone density
* Increase energy
* Improve cholesterol levels
* Improve brain function
* Decrease body fat
Testosterone should be in balance with the other hormones in our body. Too much testosterone can cause embarassing chin hairs as well as acne, aggressive behavior and salt or sugar cravings.
Testosterone can “wake up” a declining sex drive. If you have been without your sexual feelings for awhile, testosterone can help to wake things up again.
A deficiency in testosterone is determined by a blood test. When taking testosterone, pay attention to any symptoms like oily skin or chin hairs. This means you are taking too much. Remember that hormone replacement should never be too much or too little. It needs to be “just right”!
Since testosterone is an anabolic steroid it will build muscle and bone. Even if you work out religiously, you will not see results without testosterone.
Best of all, testosterone feeds our heart muscle, the largest muscle in our bodies. The heart has more testosterone receptor sites than any other muscle. Without testosterone, your heart muscle loses its strength. Do you need any more convincing than that?
I’ve been suffering profuse sweating 24/7 since 1994 when I had breast cancer stage 4 and had to have very aggressive chemo. I went through menopause and the hot flashes but then for years now I’ve been suffering extrememe body heat and profuse sweating. It runs down my face. I’m 63 yrs old. It is worse in humidiy and I have the A/C and 2 fans on me all the time. I’m worse than miserable.
I need to know what to do? Last week I passed out due to the heat of my body and the sweating so severe. I do not ever have any fever/temperature. My BP is ok. My B Sugar is ok thought I am Diabetic type 2.

Supplementing with bioidentical testosterone has been shown to offer many benefits for women and men. For example, testosterone enhances libido, or sex drive in both sexes. – It also improves overall sense of well-being and alleviates depression. , As you learned in chapter two, testosterone is very important for brain health—if your level is low, you may be at an increased risk for developing dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Testosterone supplementation may also prevent cardiovascular disease since it improves the health of the heart and blood vessels, and lowers bad (LDL) cholesterol. – Lean body mass improves with testosterone supplementation since testosterone increases muscle mass and strength and decreases fat tissue in both women and men. – Lastly, testosterone supplementation can reverse bone loss—in studies where women received estrogen and testosterone, bone density improved, whereas women who received estrogen alone merely maintained their bone density.
