Hormone Imbalance

Hormone imbalance is becoming apparent in women as early as their twenties due to the increased hormones we are exposed to in our food, our environment and even in our cosmetics and cleaning products.  As a woman ages, hormone imbalance symptoms worsen and may become nearly intolerable for many who suffer from a severe imbalance.

Some of the symptoms of hormone imbalance are:

* allergies

* anxiety or depression

* fatigue

* endometriosis

* fibrocystic breast disease

* hair loss of unwanted hair

* headaches

* foggy thinking

* low libido

* osteoporosis

* PMS

* dry skin

* weight gain and bloating

* uterine fibroids

* urinary incontinence and frequent urinary tract infections

In women, the symptoms of hormone imbalance are most often caused by estrogen and progesterone levels in the body which are out of sync with one another.  These two female sex hormones must exist in harmony.  When they don’t, there are major effects to your health and well being.

A woman produces varying amounts of these hormones depending on such things as her level of stress, her diet and exercise habits and whether she still ovulates.

During the first 10-12 days of a womans menstrual cycle she produces estrogen.  If and when ovulation occurs, progesterone is produced by the ovaries.  Around Day 28 both levels drop and menstruation occurs.  If there is no ovulation there is no progesterone to balance the estrogen.  Hence an hormone imbalance because there is too little progesterone for the amount of estrogen that continues to be produced every month.

In countries that are industrialized, women are exposed to birth control pills, household chemicals and environmental xenoestrogens.  Many women have very stressful lives and stretch themselves way too thin.  These things also result in an increase in estrogen in the body.  But no extra progesterone, so a hormone imbalance is created.

If you have symptoms of hormone imbalance, you should consider trying a natural progesterone cream first.  This is a safe and easy way to counter the effects of hormone imbalance created by too much estrogen.

  4. Having a hormone imbalance, particularly too little progesterone, can definitely hinder the ability to get pregnant.
