Women don’t corner the market on hormonal decline. Men have a drop off in their hormone levels as well. It may not be as “in your face” as our lovely menopause, but it is just as important to take it seriously!
Here are some of the symptoms of andropause:
* fatigue
* low energy
* depression and anxiety
* irritability
* memory loss
* low sex drive
The best treatment for andropause is to replace testosterone. Men produce some testosterone in their adrenal glands, but most of it is produced in the testicles.
Testosterone usually peaks in men around 20-25 years of age. After this a gradual decline begins. Between the ages of forty and seventy the average man loses nearly 60 percent of his testosterone.
Testosterone replacement can stimulate libido, improve osteoporosis, reduce body fat, improve mood and muscle mass, fight fatigue, improve the symptoms of diabetes and reduce the risk of heart disease. Wow!
If you are a male and you begin to notice fatigue, depression, anxiety, and you are overemotional and disinterested in sex, it is likely that your testosterone levels are low.
It is vital to work with a doctor to replace your declining testosterone levels. But not just any doctor. Your doctor should specialize in bioidentical testosterone replacement. Otherwise, they are not the right person to help you through this passage of life.
A blood test will be necessary and should include not only your total testosterone levels, but also your free testosterone.
It is not just seventy year old men that can suffer from low testosterone. It is now happening to men at much younger ages, even men in their thirties! Men with high powered jobs are living a life that is a recipe for burning out their hormones and their age has little to do with it.
Testosterone is a steroid hormone and can only be obtained by a prescription from your physician. Bioidentical testosterone will have to be prepared at a compounding pharmacy.
Men of all ages can suffer from andropause. If you have the symptoms listed above, see a doctor who specializes in bioidentical testosterone replacement so that you can be tested for low testosterone and begin receiving treatment.

This is correct Brian due to an elevated amount of aromatase—the enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogens. Aromatase levels rise with fat tissue, inflammation, and aging. Therefore, as men age, gain weight, or produce high amounts of inflammation, their testosterone levels may plummet while estrogen levels surge.

In men with declining testosterone it’s also a good idea to add an estrogen inhibitor to testosterone replacement. Unfortunately many doctors don’t know this and is one of the reason why many patients aren’t happy with their treatment.
